2012: A Referendum on Obama

Member Group : Glen Meakem

On the latest edition of "Glen Meakem on the Weekend," I talked about President Obama’s extremely long and repetitive campaign speech that he delivered in Ohio this past week. During the 54 minute speech, President Obama offered no new ideas on how he plans to address the many problems that Americans continue to face, but quadrupled down on his failed political policies. After 3 ½ years of anemic economic growth, unemployment above 8%, severe increases in the amount of restrictive government regulation, EPA mandates that are shutting down 20% of U.S. electricity production, and unprecedented growth in U.S. debt and deficits, the President still refuses to admit that his policies have failed to stimulate economic growth. And instead of taking responsibility for what is now HIS economy, Obama continues to "blame Bush" for all of the economic problems that face our country. President Obama is a failed leader, and 2012 will be a referendum on Obama and his failed policies. You can listen here.

I also talked with Tom Jones (a partner with Jones Day Law Firm) about the Supreme Court’s pending decisions on Obamacare and the Arizona immigration law, and how these decisions will affect future legal battles. Tom considered the questions posed during oral arguments, and opined on the likelihood that the Court will declare the individual mandate in President Obama’s healthcare law unconstitutional.

Tom and I also discussed the Obama Administration’s decision last Friday to in effect implement a version of "The Dream Act," which was defeated in Congress two years ago. Regardless of your views on immigration issues, I believe the President’s action on Friday was a clear violation of the Separation of Powers in our Constitution, and his extra-legal actions are deeply troubling to anyone who values the preservation of our constitutional republic and the rule of law. Yes, this is very serious stuff, and yes, we clearly have a left-wing, imperial president.

Finally, I talked with two political experts — Salena Zito (conservative news commentator and reporter for the Pittsburgh Tribune Review) and Jennifer Stefano (Director of the Pennsylvania Chapter of Americans for Prosperity) — regarding the November elections, and where the current presidential race stands today.

Salena believes that this election is absolutely a referendum on Barack Obama and his policies. She believes that so far, Mitt Romney has been running an effective campaign that resonates with the American people. She also thinks that because of Obama’s anti energy policies that hurt workers in Pennsylvania, Mitt Romney has a chance – perhaps the strongest chance that a national republican presidential candidate has had since 1988 – to win Pennsylvania this November.

Jennifer Stefano tells us what she saw when she was working on the ground in Wisconsin during the days leading up to Scott Walker’s recall election, including a Jesse Jackson "rally" that attracted only 60 people (you can view some video that Jennifer shot here). Like Salena, Jennifer is very optimistic about our opportunity to take back the White House and expand Conservative victories later this year. And that is a good thing, because the longer Barack Obama fails to lead our country as President, and the longer he implements counterproductive and failed agendas that make us weaker as a country, the longer it’s going to take to fix the economic and constitutional crisis that he is creating.
