Former Treasurer Hafer Sentenced
Former state Treasurer Barbara Hafer told a federal judge she is “ashamed and heart-sick” Tuesday afternoon as he prepared to sentence her for lying to the FBI and IRS.
U.S. Middle District Judge John E. Jones III spared the 74-year-Hafer a prison term, sentencing her instead to 3 years of probation.
Then, he hit her in the wallet. Jones ordered Hafer to pay a $50,000 fine, within the next 90 days. The Indiana woman must perform 500 hours of community service as well.
