America Has Always Stood for Freedom

Each weekend, I strive to bring you rational, intelligent, news and opinion on my radio program.

This weekend, I talk with one of America’s top entrepreneurs, Ed Stack – Chairman and CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods – about success in business and entrepreneurship. I also talk about the failure of over-regulation and government led economic development. From nationalized healthcare to green energy "investments," government led economic development does not work and has failed both within the United States and around the world. In fact, the historic record is clear – societies have only succeeded in creating enduring prosperity through capitalism and the rule of law. China and India are growing more successful today only because they have moved dramatically away from socialism. If America under Democratic Party leadership continues to head in the opposite direction, we will inevitably become weaker and less successful.

I also revisit one of the most poignant radio moments of 2010. I was talking with Dr. Paul Kengor of The Center for Vision and Values at Grove City College about President Truman’s decision to use atomic weapons to end World War II. 84 year old John Snyder, a combat Marine veteran of the Battle of Iwo Jima called in to the studio to acknowledge how thankful he was that Truman "dropped the bomb." This decision precluded a lengthy invasion of Japan, sparing John’s life, as well as the lives of hundreds of thousands of other U.S. Marines and Soldiers (as well as potentially millions of Japanese lives). America and regular Americans (like John Snyder) have been a force for freedom and good in the world for a long time. We will continue to be a leading force for good if we win our own battle for individual liberty here at home.

Although I will not take live phone calls on the show this weekend, I welcome your thoughtful feedback and respectful input. Please feel free to email me at [email protected], and visit glenmeakem.com to listen to this and past editions of "Glen Meakem on the Weekend."
