Archbishop Chaput Praised for Protecting the Most Vulnerable
From a Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation press release:
Archbishop Chaput Praised for Commitment to Protecting the Most Vulnerable
Harrisburg, PA -Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, the newly-named Roman Catholic Archbishop of Philadelphia, will be a champion for Pennsylvania's most vulnerable citizens, said Maria Vitale, Education Director for the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, the state affiliate of National Right to Life.
"Archbishop Chaput has distinguished himself for his tireless defense of the rights of preborn children and their mothers, the elderly, and the disabled," Vitale said. "We look forward to his courageous leadership in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."
As Archbishop Chaput stated in his groundbreaking book, Render Unto Caesar, "In our day, sanctity-of-life issues are foundational-not because of anyone's religious views about abortion, although these are important; but because the act of dehumanizing and killing the unborn child attacks human dignity in a uniquely grave way."
Archbishop Chaput went on to write, "...the logic behind permissive abortion makes all human rights politically contingent."
"Archbishop Chaput has demonstrated valiant leadership in promoting the sanctity of human life," Vitale added. "We are confident he will emerge as one of the leading voices in the state in safeguarding the most essential right-the right to life."
