November is National Adoption Month

Pennsylvania Pastors’; Network Encourages Families to Look at Plethora of
Adoption Opportunities;
National Adoption Day Set for this Saturday

Philadelphia, PA November is National Adoption Month, and religious leaders are encouraging families to consider adopting one of the 107,000 children in the U.S. who are waiting for loving homes.

Each year, National Adoption Month takes on a new focus to target different areas of need, such as older child adoption or raising awareness of the huge need for more adoptive homes. The focus for 2011 centers on ways that adoption professionals can recruit and retain parents for the 107,000 children and youth in foster care waiting for adoptive families. Grade school-aged children, from the ages of 8 to 12, are especially in need.

"There are so many children in this country waiting for a loving family to
welcome them into their home, just as Christ welcomed us into his family,”
said Colin Hanna, president of the Pennsylvania Pastors’ Network and Let Freedom Ring. "Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come unto Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these’ (Matthew 19:14 NIV), so we should answer the Lord’s call when we are able and give these children a loving, Godly home when they need it most. This is a way we can truly help the "least of these"; and show God’s love in a profound way."

National Adoption Month began as a weeklong recognition in Massachusetts in 1976. Each year, the President of the United States makes a proclamation to announce that November is National Adoption Month.

This Saturday November 19 is also National Adoption Day, marking the
12th annual event when thousands of adoptions are finalized in courtrooms across the U.S. The celebration grows larger each year as more and more states, families and courts become involved.

The Pennsylvania Pastors’; Network is a group of biblically faithful clergy and
church liaisons whose objective is to build a permanent infrastructure of
like-minded clergy who affirm the authority of Scripture, take seriously
Jesus’; command to be the "salt and light"; to the culture, encourage
informed Christian thinking about contemporary social issues; examine public policy issues without politicizing their pulpits and engage their congregations in taking part in our political process on a non-partisan basis.

The Pennsylvania Pastors’ Network is a project of Let Freedom Ring, Inc., a 501 c(4) non-profit organization.
