Obama War on Religious Freedom Continues

Member Group : Glen Meakem

President Obama’s assault on religious freedom continued this past week, with his decision to force Christian charities to offer and pay for contraception and abortifacient drugs as part of the health insurance plans they provide to employees. And President Obama’s "accommodation" for the Roman Catholic Church, offered last Friday, does nothing to change this. The government intends to force Catholic and other religious institutions to violate their religious beliefs, teachings, and consciences, by forcing them to offer and pay for contraception and abortifacient drugs. Liberal Democrats want to make this an issue of women’s health and contraception, but as Marco Rubio said last week, this is about First Amendment religious liberty. Marco told John Gizzi of Human Events, "This is about the President of the United States believing that his public policy ideas are more important than the religious freedoms protected by the Constitution." President Obama’s so-called "contraception rule" and the fact that he is willing to use the power of the federal government to impose it on every American and every American employer is just one more reason why Obamacare must be overturned completely, and why Obama must be defeated in November. We need a leader who respects and defends our basic liberties and our constitution, not a leader who feels no responsibility or obligation to keep his actions within the law.

On my radio program this past weekend, I also talked about the flaws with the Man Made Global Warming (MMGW) movement, and why there are increasing numbers of climate scientists who are questioning the MMGW theory that climate change is driven by levels of human produced carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere.Click here to listen. Liberals would have us believe that all scientists agree that human activity drives climate change, and that this issue is "settled science." The fact is that the scientists are continuing to evaluate the MMGW theory against observed facts, and the more scientists vet the MMGW concept, the more they discover serious flaws with the theory.

The list of problems with the MMGW theory is long — consider just a few:

• In direct contradiction to all the dire predictions and MMGW computer models, average Earth temperatures have not increased at all since 1997 and there has been zero loss of ice in the Himalayas.

• There are no computer models of the Earth’s atmosphere that have or can successfully predict actual Earth temperatures or CO2 levels. The Earth’s atmosphere is an incredibly complex natural system and no one understands, or has successfully modeled, the full complexity of the Earth’s atmosphere.

• MMGW advocates deny that there has been variability in Earth temperatures before industrialization, when in fact there has been enormous climate change before the industrial era that was driven by factors having nothing to do with humans, and these non-human factors (solar activity, cosmic rays, subtle shifts in Earth orbit, volcanic activity, etc.) remain active today.

• The low level of CO2 in our atmosphere today (slightly more than 300 parts per million) is still recovering from the low point reached during the last Ice Age – over 15,000 years ago, and as temperatures rise, the oceans emit CO2. The CO2 levels used to grow plants and trees in green houses are three times higher than current atmospheric levels. Increasing levels of CO2 make the Earth greener and more fertile.

• More CO2 is produced each year by animal and human respiration than by human industry.

I also talked with Bill Beach (Director of the Center for Data Analysis at the Heritage Foundation) about the growing number of Americans who are now dependent on Government. According to a recent Heritage report, 20% of all Americans now depend on some form of federal government assistance. This growing dependency is one of the biggest threats to American freedom and prosperity. If we want America to remain strong in the future, then people must stand on their own two feet, and take care of themselves and their own families. I also talk with Jim Gaffney (Principal at Peak Performance Management) about what individuals can do to be more successful in business, sales, and life. Jim and his team offer real solutions to business people who are determined to succeed, even in today’s economy.

Finally, I talked about the most recent Obama Administration failures to secure freedom, liberty, and safety here in the United States and around the world. Iran is now just one year from having nuclear weapons. Thousands of shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles are missing from Libya. An increasing number of ‘green’ companies (that received tax payer backed loans) are declaring bankruptcy. President Obama continues to side-step Congress and expand his unconstitutional use of his executive authority (in the latest case, he issued state waivers to the "No Child Left Behind" Education law). And more Americans are now dependent on Federal programs than ever before.

I know that many of us are concerned for our future. On Tuesday, February 28, 2012, I will appear at Robert Morris University, in Moon Township, Pennsylvania for "An Evening with Glen Meakem." At this event, I will be talking about the state of our economy and lessons learned from the past, as well as our out-of-control government spending, national debt, and the future of programs like Social Security and Medicare. I will discuss these and other challenges facing our country, propose possible solutions, and suggest ways that individuals can help bring about needed political changes.

The event will begin with coffee, soft drinks, and snacks at 6 pm, and the program will begin at 7 pm. We will have a brief break at 8:00 pm and finish by 9:30 pm. "An Evening with Glen Meakem" is open to the public. The cost is $45 per person. For more information and to register, call 412-749-9045 or visit glenmeakem.com.
