Pennsylvania Family Council has been working hard to assist legislators on some important pro-life legislation this year:
Planned Parenthood Gendercide. Lila Rose and the Live Action team have released three videos showing gendercide at Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics. These videos are part of a new series titled "Gendercide: Sex-Selection in America," exposing the practice of sex-selective abortion in the United States and how Planned Parenthood and the rest of the abortion industry facilitate the selective elimination of baby girls in the womb. Six studies in the past four years indicate that there are thousands of "missing girls" in the U.S., many from sex-selective abortion.
Planned Parenthood is waging a war on women, and in Pennsylvania, we can stop funding them with our tax dollars! The Whole Woman's Health Funding Priority Act prioritizes state family planning funding (currently going to Planned Parenthood) to go to legitimate healthcare providers who can provide true comprehensive health services. Give Pennsylvania Women the Right to Know! House Bill 1077, The Woman's Right to Know Act, is currently sitting in the PA House, legislation that would make sure that a woman seeking abortion would first be offered an ultrasound image of her unborn baby. The bill passed the House Health Committee with a vote of 15-7. View the roll call here. Your help is needed to pass it! Take Action and contact your state representative and state senator! New Mexico Says 'No' to Religious Freedom. With New Mexico's Court of Appeals ruling on Tuesday, June 5, religious liberties protected by the First Amendment took a severe blow. The Court upheld an opinion from the New Mexico Human Rights Commission that a photography company could not discriminate clients or refuse services centered on religious beliefs. In 2006, Elaine Huguenin was asked by Vanessa Willock to photograph her same-sex commitment ceremony, she declined. Willock filed a complaint with the New Mexico Human Rights Commission, citing sexual-orientation discrimination. Huguenin fought the suit, with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund, but lost. The New Mexico Court of Appeals just ruled against the photographer. This scenario could happen in Pennsylvania if we don't pass a Marriage Protection Amendment.

Please contact your state senator and representative and ask them to support the Pennsylvania Marriage Protection Amendment.

Behind China on Human Rights. In a move that ought to (but likely won't) outrage women's rights advocates everywhere, President Obama announced last week that he opposes proposed legislation that would ban gender-selective abortions (the bill failed in the House). The president's position defies commentary to the extent that it is difficult to find words appropriate to such a reprehensible stance. Notably, sex-selective abortion is practiced most extensively, but illegally, in China, where couples under the one-child policy use the practice to ensure that their only allowed child is a boy. Indeed, the Chinese government vowed in August of 2011 to crack down on sex-selective abortion, according to the Huffington Post. When an American President lags behind China in his defense of human rights, Americans should be more than worried–they should be outraged.
