Some thoughts on the Start of President Obama’s Second Term

In his book, The Audacity of Hope (published in 2006), then Senator Obama commented on the beginning of the second George W. Bush Presidential term. On page 20, he wrote, "Maybe peace would have broken out with a different kind of White House, one less committed to waging a perpetual campaign – a White House that would see a 51-48 victory as a call to humility and compromise rather than an irrefutable mandate."

But after winning a similarly narrow victory over Governor Mitt Romney (51-47), President Obama has failed to heed his own words.

Immediately following Obama’s 2012 election victory, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) indicated that he would work with the newly re-elected President to raise tax REVENUES by $800 billion over ten years. The Republican approach would have raised this money largely by limiting deductions and tax write offs for so-called wealthy Americans, a plan that Obama himself agreed would work during the campaign. But instead of seeking peace with Republicans, President Obama rejected Boehner’s conciliatory gestures, and demanded that Republicans cave on their core principles by raising tax RATES instead.

More recently, Republicans sought spending cuts from the President in exchange for another debt limit increase. But instead of seeking compromise with Republicans, President Obama rejected their overtures, made clear that he refused to negotiate, and demanded a clean debt ceiling increase.

This week, during his inaugural address, President Obama proudly proclaimed a liberal "progressive" agenda for his second term. Instead of seeking a humble tone that both acknowledged his narrow election victory and recognized his policies have failed to create jobs or robust growth over the past four years, he insisted that government increase tax payer spending on his failed green energy programs, demanded no reforms to entitlement programs, and promised more job crushing action to combat "climate change."

And after criticizing Bush for waging what he viewed as, "a perpetual campaign," Obama just turned HIS Presidential campaign organization into an ongoing political nonprofit designed to advance his "progressive" agenda and permanently divide Americans.

President Obama’s current rhetoric and actions stand in stark contrast to the criticisms he unleashed as a Junior Senator back in 2006. President Obama is a hypocrite.

But, do not be too depressed about America’s plight over the next four years. In the coming weeks and months, I will be talking on the radio and writing about how individual Americans and families can succeed despite the poor policies and leadership coming from Washington. In addition, I will be writing and talking about how resilient our great nation really is. Do not worry – America has survived far worse challenges than the left-wing Obama Presidency. And I am 100% confident that there will be many great leaders and citizens of character in our future, enabling America to rise and be great again.
