Franklin & Marshall College Poll

The 23nd year of consecutive polling in Pennsylvania

Below are the highlights of the June 2014, Franklin & Marshall College Poll of Pennsylvania voters. Complete results can be found at http://politics.fandm.edu

• A majority (59%) of Pennsylvania voters believe the state is "off on the wrong track."

• In the governor’s race, Democratic candidate Tom Wolf holds a 22 percentage point lead over Governor Tom Corbett, 47% to 25%, with 27% indicating they "don’t know."

• Education (22%) and jobs (13%) are the issues voters say are most important to them in considering who to support for governor.

• About one in four (26%) voters believes Governor Tom Corbett is doing an "excellent" or "good" job, which is an increase from the ratings he received in the Jan 2014, Franklin & Marshall College Poll (23%). Almost half (49%) of Republicans rate his performance as "excellent" or "good," an improvement from 38 percent in the January poll.

• About one in four (26%) voters believes Governor Corbett has performed sufficiently well to deserve re-election.

• One in three (34%) registered Pennsylvania voters believes President Obama is doing an "excellent" or "good" job as president which is higher than his January rating of 30 percent.

• Four in five (84%) registered voters favor allowing adults to legally use marijuana for medical purposes if a doctor recommends it.

• Two in five voters (39%) favor both cutting spending and increasing taxes as a way of balancing the state budget, while 30 percent favor cutting state state programs and services.

This survey reflects interviews with 502 Pennsylvania registered voters conducted by the Center for Opinion Research at Franklin & Marshall College from January June 23-29, 2014 (sample error of +/- 4.4 percentage points).
