Toomey Supports Continuing Resolution, Increased Veterans Funding
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) voted in favor of bipartisan legislation that funds the Department of Veterans Affairs and military construction projects for the next fiscal year and keeps the remainder of the government funded until December. The Senate passed this funding legislation by a 72-26 vote, and it now awaits consideration in the House of Representatives.

"I support this bipartisan legislation because it increases funding for our nation’s veterans, keeps the federal government fully operational months into the next fiscal year, and includes a number of policies for which I have advocated and are good for Pennsylvania," said Sen. Toomey. "For instance, this bill provides funding to help modernize infrastructure for Pittsburgh’s 911th Airlift Wing so it can host a C-17 squadron. This is a huge win for Western Pennsylvania.

"I also am pleased that we could prioritize funding to address two troubling public health issues – the scourge of heroin and prescription painkillers and the Zika virus.

"That said, it is a terrible shame that Senate Democrats have spent months repeatedly filibustering federal funding bills – only to throw their support at the 11th hour and with a potential government shutdown a couple days away. The Senate could have – and should have – approved this essential federal funding a while ago. It is long past time that both sides work together and put partisan politics aside, especially when it comes to supporting our veterans."
