New bishop of Harrisburg to address hundreds of pro-lifers at state-wide event

CAMP HILL, Pa. – The Most Rev. Ronald Gainer, new bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg, will be the featured speaker at the 2014 Celebrate Life Banquet on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg, 1150 Camp Hill Bypass, Camp Hill.

Gainer quickly established himself as a strong advocate for the protection of all life when he was installed as the new bishop of the Harrisburg Diocese earlier this year. In media interviews, he openly emphasized protecting preborn babies from abortion by supporting them and their mothers.

"The public square is where we need to raise our voice to ensure the dignity and the sacredness of life," Gainer told The (Harrisburg) Catholic Witness in March.

Gainer is a native of Pottsville. He served as a priest in the Diocese of Allentown for 29 years before he was appointed as Bishop of Lexington, Ky. Along with serving as the bishop of the Harrisburg Diocese, Gainer also is the president of the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference, a public policy organization.

Gainer will be available to speak to the media from 5 to 5:30 p.m. immediately prior to the banquet. Reporters and photographers wishing to attend the media availability should contact Micaiah Bilger, Education Director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, at 717-541-0034 or via email at [email protected] .

The Celebrate Life Banquet benefits the life-saving work of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, the state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee.
