Builders Launch Central PA Campaign to
Protect PA’s #1 "Endangered Species"
Effort Takes Aim at Job Discrimination

MANHEIM (10.11.09) The local chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, a national organization representing some 25,000 American construction and construction-related firms, is urging legislative action on House Bill 2010 sponsored by Representative John Bear (R-Lititz). ABC President & CEO John R. Zimmer said the group is launching a multi-front, radio, web, billboard and grassroots offensive to "help elected leaders understand the urgency of protecting tens of thousands of Pennsylvania jobs."

"Governor Rendell and the legislature have an opportunity to end one of the last, legal forms of discrimination in Pennsylvania – so called Project Labor Agreements," said Zimmer, adding, "House Bill 2010 rights a major wrong by giving every contractor the ability to compete for taxpayer funded projects. Every bid will now be judged on the merits of cost, on-time delivery and workmanship – not just the union card."

House Bill 2010 was introduced last month at a State Capitol rally where some 300 paid union protestors shouted down proponents of the measure. Capitol Police were called to protect bill sponsors and supporters.
