Marsico Strongly Opposed to Governor’s Decision to
Allow Syrian Refugees into Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG – House Judiciary Committee Majority Chairman Ron Marsico (R-Dauphin) issued the following statement in regard to the governor’s recent decision to welcome Syrian refugees into Pennsylvania:

"I am highly disturbed by the governor’s decision to put these refugees first. His priority should be the welfare of the Pennsylvanians that he was elected to serve. Even with an extremely thorough vetting process, there is a chance that this could become a very serious national security threat. And that is the reason why at least 10 other states have decided not to accept these refugees. It is not a risk they are willing to take, it is not a risk I’m willing to take and, I would hope not a risk the governor would be willing to take.

"The governor has to realize this could be a life and death situation with radicals. The danger is real and the safety of Pennsylvanians is at serious risk.

"Aside from the potential security threat, this decision is estimated to cost our taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. This is simply unacceptable. We cannot place that kind of financial burden on them.

"It is my intention to sign onto a letter, from various members of the House of Representatives, asking the governor to swiftly reverse his decision. It is my hope that he will realize the myriad of issues surrounding and seriously reconsider. We simply must continue to protect citizens of the Commonwealth."
