March 17, 2010:
As President Obama and his Democratic allies in Congress contrive more egregious strategies for passing health care "reform" that the American public clearly does not want, the President's job approval rating continues to slide.
In fact Gallup today reports that for the first time in his Presidency more voters disapprove of Mr. Obama's performance in office than approve. A total of 47% disapprove, while 46% approve.
Clearly the ill-advised drive to pass health care "reform" at any political cost is in fact depleting President Obama's political capital. And, his approval rating looks positively rosy compared to that of Congress, which has disapproval ratings near 80%.
And, just when you think Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic House leadership couldn't be more conniving, they come up with the "deemed approved" strategy to pass health care "reform" without actually voting on it.
It is a cowardly and shameful proposition.
It is bad enough Obama, Reid and Pelosi are bending every effort to pass a reform bill the American public strongly opposes, but they want to do it without actually standing up and being counted in a roll call vote.
If health care "reform" is enacted into law in this manner, it will only throw gasoline on the flames of outrage that already burn bright.
It also will add fuel to the fires of the legal challenges sure to be filed.
The time has come for the President to admit defeat. Because defeated he and his allies will be - either with this particular piece of legislation or at the polls this November.
