March for Our Lives Perspective, Questions

Inspired by multiple murders in a Parkland, Florida school, left-wing groups hostile to the United States Constitution’s Second Amendment are characteristically exploiting another tragedy to advance their anti-gun agenda. They always do, but, this time, they are also exploiting children.

Television, radio, print and online coverage promoting putative “Children’s March” reenactments has consumed public attention for days. Local preambles to a larger scheduled rally have been held nationwide, most involving walkouts during school hours. A March 24 so-called “March for Our Lives” rally for “school safety” is expected to draw thousands to Washington.

Local kids didn’t, and the Washington rally won’t denounce the Florida gunman, a young misfit with a record of antisocial behavior. Protesters won’t call out the FBI or the Florida county sheriff’s office, both of which had multiple warnings of the killer’s posted threats and potential for violence. And they won’t criticize the deputies who cowardly waited outside the school for the massacre to end. In short, protesters won’t direct their ire at the killer and the people who failed to do their jobs to protect the school and the children therein.

Instead, the kids, many motivated by opportunity and/or peer pressure, took time off from school. Encouraged by ideologically-motivated adults, including in many cases, school faculties and administrations, the students protested people, organizations and legal, constitutionally-protected, already-regulated inanimate objects that weren’t responsible for a preventable tragedy.

But, rather than criticize impressionable children for rallies in which they were encouraged to participate, let’s address questions begged by the young protesters’ expressed concern for their own safety, while stimulating their thinking about gun control, gun ownership and the sanctity of life.

For years, Democrats have been vocal about gun control. But, from 2007 to 2011, Democrats held majorities in both congressional chambers, including, for a time, a filibuster-proof Senate majority while a liberal Democrat occupied the White House. Despite having complete control of the legislative process, despite having successfully passed Obamacare without a single Republican vote, Washington Democrats did nothing about gun control. Nothing. Why not? Kids, perhaps you should ask rally organizers.

According to the FBI, in 2016, 1,604 people were killed by “knives and cutting instruments” and 374 were killed by “rifles.” Should knives be banned from school cafeterias?

Would the educators who approved interrupting class time for walkouts to promote gun control also permit walkouts for pro-life demonstrations? If not, why not? The Left’s Second Amendment bogeyman, the National Rifle Association, never killed anyone. If protesters were genuinely concerned about children’s lives and safety, they would be protesting abortion providers. America’s largest abortionist, Planned Parenthood, not only receives taxpayer money, annually, the organization performs hundreds of thousands of abortions.

Have any students protesting the constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms given any thought to how many hundreds of thousands of kids their age would be available to join their protest if they hadn’t been aborted by Planned Parenthood?

After all, abortionists don’t wait until children are school-age to kill them. Ironic, huh?
