July 3-4 – Modern Defense of Freedom on Independence Day Weekend!

In the spirit of our country’s founders, this Independence Day weekend was a great time to take action in defense of our freedom, by protesting loudly and telling our elected officials where we stand on the current political issues. The many tea party protests that took place across our country this weekend were an indication that Americans will not give up their economic and political independence easily.

My Tea Party Speech

I began my radio program this weekend by sharing my latest Tea Party Speech with you. I also delivered this speech on Saturday morning in front of over 1,000 people at the Mercer County Court House in Mercer, Pennsylvania.Click here to listen to this past weekend’s radio program.

The fact is Democrat Party leaders are scared of the tea party movement. When President Obama was sworn into office and the 111th U.S. Congress was seated in January 2009, our new "liberal, progressive, left-wing" leadership had no idea that their radical agenda would spark a popular, middle-class uprising. And now the tea party movement – made up of Americans of all ages and ethnic backgrounds – is the only thing standing in the way of these "Progressive" leaders.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and the Obama administration are trying to change America into a statist, European styled social democracy, where the government exercises increasing control over every aspect of our lives. The irony is that at the same moment in history when the left-wing of American politics is in power and pushing for this kind of society, recent history has absolutely and categorically demonstrated that both the totalitarian and the softer democratic models of socialism have completely failed around the world. Socialist policies always increase the number of people who suffer economically, restrict social mobility, and remove individual opportunities for success. Socialist policies are morally wrong because they are fundamentally unfair. Using the state to take away the fruits of people’s labor and then redistribute that value to others who have not earned it is fundamentally unfair. And whether a "maker" who is robbed by government in this process, or a "taker" who is lavished with benefits, these unnatural socialist acts rob every one of their dignity, liberty, and personal responsibility.

234 years ago, the Founders of this great nation declared Independence from a tyrannical foreign power that was robbing Americans of their basic freedoms. Today, the tax, borrow, and spend policies coming out of Washington D.C. are limiting our economic progress and restricting our fundamental freedoms. But we are going to turn this around!

Political polls continue to demonstrate that President Obama’s "liberal," left-wing," "progressive" agenda is unpopular with the American people (see here and here). In spite of Obama’s rhetoric, platitudes, and many speeches, Americans continue to reject his and his party’s socialist vision for our future. With four months to go before the November elections, we must remain vigilant. We must support conservative candidates with our time and our money. And we must encourage like minded Americans to get out and vote.

Some Entrepreneurial Insights

Ed Stack – Chairman and CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods – returned to the program this weekend with some additional advice for aspiring entrepreneurs. Ed stated that successful entrepreneurs start businesses because they love what they are doing and because they are absolutely committed to their product. Total commitment is necessary, because as Ed’s own story demonstrates, no matter how successful you become at business, you will suffer through some tough times. I am grateful to Ed for his wisdom and insights, and also for his commitment to my radio program.

As you finish this year’s Independence Day weekend and enjoy the long, hot days of summer, please remember that we enjoy many unique opportunities and blessings as Americans. Although the Obama Administration continues to inflict heavy damage onto our economy and our way of life (click here to read Alan Meltzer’s Op Ed piece from last week’s Wall Street Journal), the United States is still the greatest land of opportunity in the entire world. If we can defeat and reverse Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and the Democrat Party’s left-wing agenda, it will remain so for many years to come.
