Understanding Results of Obama Policies

One week ago, I had the privilege of interviewing Dinesh D’Sousa (President of the Kings College in New York, and author of the book Obama’s America: Unmaking the American Dream) and viewing his new film, "2016: Obama’s America." To listen to the interview, click here (the interview begins at the 1:33:54 mark).

First, I thoroughly recommend D’Sousa’s movie. I saw it when it opened in my community, and then brought my entire family to see it. It is a beautifully filmed, highly entertaining, and very factual documentary that explains Barack Obama’s background and the roots of his left-wing political philosophy. Enthusiasm for this film is continuing to build. One month ago, "2016" was available on one screen in Houston. Two weeks ago, it could be seen on only 80 screens in limited areas of the country. This past weekend, "2016: Obama’s America" was showing in over 1,700 theaters across the country.

In 2008, Barack Obama promised "Hope and Change" on the campaign trail, convincing the majority of voters that electing him President of the United States was a wonderful opportunity for America to progress into a "post-racial" future. He also promised to "fix" our economy, and "heal" our environment, America and the world.

Of course, President Obama’s performance in office has been something well short of "Hope and Change." His policies have failed, giving us a weak economy and unprecedented levels of government debt that will burden American taxpayers and our economy for generations to come. Unable to run for re-election on his record in office, Obama has relied on lies about Mitt Romney, class warfare rhetoric, and sowing division among Americans. What a disgrace! President Obama has failed to describe an agenda for his second term beyond the massive tax hikes on all Americans scheduled in law for January 1, 2013. Obama has left us wondering, what will he do if elected to a second term? Where does Obama want to take America in the next four years?

Dinesh D’Sousa’s book and movie are intended to shed some light on Obama’s future vision for America by offering a glimpse into Obama’s past. Obama’s father was a self-described anti-American, anti-capitalist academic from Kenya who saw the United States as an aggressive and exploitative force that unfairly plunders countries around the world. His mother was a left-wing student who lived much of her adult life in Indonesia. Obama himself lived in Indonesia for at least four years (from age six to age ten), and was exposed from a young age to systems of thought that are hostile to the Western World and the free enterprise system. Obama’s self acknowledged mentor when he was a teenager in Hawaii – Frank Marshall Davis – was a card carrying member of the Communist Party USA (according to FBI files, his card number was CP #47544). Obama befriended and studied under Professor Edward Said at Columbia (a Palestinian radical), and Professor Roberto Unger at Harvard Law School (a radical Brazilian Socialist). Of course, convicted Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers was one of Obama’s close friends in Chicago, and the radical anti-American Reverend Jeremiah Wright was Obama’s pastor in Chicago for twenty years. In the movie, D’Sousa refers to this sordid group of men as Obama’s "Founding Fathers."

Many Americans simply don’t realize that Obama’s intellectual impulses are derived largely from third-world, anti-colonial, Marxist thinkers, and groups of radical activists – some of whom wanted to implement a Soviet styled government here in the United States. Ultimately, D’Sousa concludes that Obama subscribes to an ideology that sees American exceptionalism and global super power status as negative for the rest of the world. And he seeks to create an America that is simply one of many nations that are equal in economic and military strength. D’Sousa believes that if re-elected, Obama will continue to implement policies that make us weaker and poorer. And, if you study history, you understand that the world with a weak, withdrawn, debt ridden America, is a MUCH more dangerous place for all people and a poorer, far more difficult place for Americans.

The facts do not lie. No matter the reason, President Obama and the Democrat Party have pursued a number of policies that are a distinct departure from the 1980 through 2006 period of prosperity. These policies include a massive Keynesian government stimulus program, far tighter government control over all health care, a cancellation of the 1990s bipartisan welfare reform, draconian new regulations on the electric power industry causing a shut down of half of the nation’s coal fired power plants, dramatic curtailment of domestic off-shore oil drilling, prevention of new energy infrastructure like the Keystone XL oil pipeline, dramatically higher taxes on business and investment which will be implemented on January 1, 2013, and confusing, unnecessary, voluminous new regulations on finance and credit in our economy. I could go on, but the bottom line is that the result of these new policies has been the slowest economic recovery in over 70 years, painfully high unemployment, and a new national pessimism about our future.

To understand the danger to our nation and our standard of living, look further at the results of Obama’s first term in office. Our current economic "recovery" is the weakest since World War II. America’s GDP grew a mere 6.8% from the second quarter of 2009 through the second quarter of 2012, "the slowest in the first three years of a postwar recovery" according to the Associated Press. Base rate unemployment is currently at 8.3%, and has been above 8% for a record 43 months. Including discouraged and underemployed workers, unemployment in the United States of America is currently at 15% — that is 23 million Americans who are out of work! President Obama has exploded our national debt, increasing it from $10 Trillion to $16 Trillion since he took office, and ongoing deficits now total more than $1 Trillion each year. On our current trajectory, our debt situation will be worse than that of Greece within just a few years. Thanks Barack!

If you want to experience the continued decline of America, then you should vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden, but if you want a brighter future for yourself, your children and grandchildren, then please vote for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. Last week, Romney and Ryan outlined a bold vision for our future, including North American energy independence by 2020 and 12 million new American jobs over the next four years. With the kind of tax, spending, and regulatory reforms Romney and Ryan will implement, and the confidence they will create, I believe that these goals are very achievable. And Romney’s pro-growth policies are not about helping narrow special interest groups like in Obamanomics. Romney and Ryan’s policies will make America stronger, better, and fairer for ALL AMERICANS. And yes, a strong, successful, free America is exactly what we Americans and the entire world need.

Please make sure you are registered to vote now, and make plans to show up at the polls on November 6th! Every vote counts and it is your patriotic duty! If it requires time, effort and sacrifice for you to vote on November 6th, just remember the far greater sacrifices of our military men and women, especially in dangerous places like Afghanistan. We need every vote and voting is the least we can do in service to our country.
