Asked and Answered: Are Democrats Capable of Introspection?

An election loss of last November’s magnitude calls for serious introspection, however, to date, Democrats have demonstrated no talent for self-reflection at all.

On the premise that “Democrats (metaphorically, at least) engage in circular firing squads,” and “survivors hope to grasp the party’s residual power after losing elections,” a mid-December column recapping their decisive 2024 loss asked, “Are Democrats capable of introspection?”

The piece stated, “Democrats lost Election 2024 because they had lousy candidates, a polarizing message and couldn’t paper over four years of failures.”

It reported that “the party…is ‘looking for answers,’ but are committed to using ‘different words next time,’” suggested that “Democrats must first acknowledge and address their systemic problems, among which is that most Americans are not stupid,” and concluded, “Democrats will lose national elections until they stop treating voters as if they are.”

At the February 1 Democratic National Committee (DNC) gathering held to conduct leadership elections and install new officers, the party answered the question – “Are Democrats capable of introspection?” – with a resounding “NOPE!”

Clearly, any party regulars who spent time “looking for answers” lacked diligence. The DNC ignored the party’s systemic problems, and, stupidly, intends to continue treating American voters as if it’s they who are stupid.

Democrats face a post-election poll by the left-wing Quinnipiac Polling firm showing that only 31 percent of voters view their party favorably, while a historically-high 57 percent hold an unfavorable view.

In 2024, Democrats lost significant ground with blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and voters under 30 – all essential elements of the party’s coalition.

Clearly, Democrats have a major problem, however, the DNC gathering offered no plan to change course or clean up their message, both necessities if they have any hope of winning back lost voters.

Full disclosure: I didn’t watch the DNC proceedings live, but reviewed a wealth of internet material, including videos of the goings on there.

And – hoo, boy! – were there ever some goings on…!

Ignoring the November 2024 electoral judgment that they’re too out of touch to govern, the DNC put on a woke clown show.

If the candidates and delegates had seemed just a bit smarter and less earnest, the entire event might have passed as self-parody. But, the DNC is controlled by the party’s oblivious activist fringe.

The DNC chair vote began with a “land acknowledgment,” noting that America is on indigenous, stolen land.

The moderator, MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, asked candidates “How many of you believe that racism and misogyny played a role in Vice President Harris’ defeat?” Unsurprisingly, everyone raised their hands.

Former chair Jaime Harrison announced that DNC elections must be gender-balanced, including when non-binary candidates are in the running:

“[O]ur three at-large vice chair positions are used to ensure gender balance among seven offices… Our rules specify that when we have a non-binary candidate or officer, the non-binary individual is counted as neither male nor female, and the remaining six offices must be gender balanced with the results of the previous four elections. Our elected officers are currently two male and two female. In order to be gender balanced… we must elect one male, one female, and one person of any gender.”

Got that?

At one point, Harrison interrupted voting to inform delegates that not enough non-binary candidates had been elected, so, now, they MUST vote for one.

Dr. Quintessa Hathaway, candidate for DNC chair – clearly no Aretha Franklin – broke into song during her pitch. And there was group dancing, too, because…sure, why not…?

Pale, skinny 24-year-old anti-gun activist David Hogg, a student at Stoneman Douglas High School during the 2018 shooting there, was elected as one of three vice chairs. Hogg sold himself as someone who can win back young voters, especially young men.

Color me skeptical…

In fact, while largely ignoring policy and doubling down on the things for which 2024 voters rejected Democrats, every one of the vice-chair candidates’ presentations featured race, gender and sexuality.

Substack’s Sasha Stone wrote, “This goes deeper for [Democrats] than politics. This is who they are. This is how they see the world.”

Nonetheless, following all the bizarre foolishness and wall-to-wall LGBTQ+/DEI wokery, DNC delegates who are at least theoretically committed to dismantling “America’s white heteronormative patriarchy” selected the largely unknown Ken Martin, chair of the radical Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party – a straight, white dude – as their chairman.

Ironic, huh?
