Biden/Harris Owe America Honest Answers on Afghanistan Fiasco

Member Group : Jerry Shenk

America’s last combat death in Afghanistan occurred in February, 2020, so fewer Americans were killed there in the last 18 months than have died violently on Chicago’s South Side in the past 18 days.

Following recent events in Afghanistan, though, alarmed Americans have asked questions the Biden/Harris administration must re-answer, only this time, honestly:

Why was the Bagram Air Base closed and American troops withdrawn without consulting coalition allies, forewarning American expatriates, or making provisions for their security or evacuation?

While Afghanistan was being seized by depraved fanatics, and Americans and allies abandoned, why didn’t President(ish) Joe Biden make/take a single call to/from a foreign leader, appear in public for six days, or take any questions?

Shouldn’t America’s allies influence decisions affecting them?

Our allies think so.

The Director of the German Council on Foreign Relations said Germany’s legislators are angry: “The Biden administration came to office promising an open, …transparent exchange with its allies. They said the transatlantic relationship would be pivotal.”

The British Parliamentary Defense Committee chairman asked, “How can you say ‘America is back’ when we’re being defeated by an insurgency armed with no more than [rocket-propelled grenades], land mines, and AK-47s?”

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair called Biden’s precipitous withdrawal “imbecilic.” Parliament voted to hold the U.S. President in contempt.

Before emerging from his bunker, Biden issued a statement: “When I came to office, I inherited a deal cut by my predecessor…,” a pretext rehashed days later when Joe finally shuffled before TV cameras, squinted, and “emotionally” read somebody else’s words – clumsily.

First, he expressed how really, really awful he feels about what had just happened – but only incidentally on his watch.

One wonders, since Taliban savages have no respect for “heretics,” women, gays or human life, does Joe feel really, really, really bad for the unfortunate Afghans already or about to be slaughtered, mutilated, enslaved and/or raped?

Then, Biden repeated: “I inherited a deal that President Trump negotiated with the Taliban.”

In effect, Joe said, “the buck stops with me” – but it’s still Donald Trump’s fault.

That won’t sell.

Indeed, the Trump administration was negotiating an Afghan settlement that would allow a further drawdown of American troops there, but who believes that someone who published “The Art of the Deal” best-seller would flee without making provisions for protecting or evacuating Americans and allied citizens, setting pre- and post-withdrawal conditions, or specifying consequences for violations?

Who can imagine President Donald Trump surrendering, as Biden/Harris did, $billions of military weapons, munitions and equipment – some classified, all operational – now available to terror organizations and for sale/export to Chinese, Russian and Iranian troublemakers?

What advice did Biden receive from Vice-President Kamala Harris (who claimed a “key role” in the decision), Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark Milley, and CIA Director William Burns?

It appears that an impotent president, incompetent vice-president and inept military/intelligence/foreign policy honchos just deserted 10-15 thousand American civilians before appearing on national television to make excuses and empty promises, soft-pedal terrorism, and spin, in ABC’s words, “breathtaking” lies about their failures and our allies’ disaffection. On-the-ground realities certify their dishonesty.

Considering the scale of their debacle, if Biden/Harris acted on the team’s cumulative “best” advice and their own impaired judgment, the only honorable thing to do would be for all of them to resign in shame.

But shameless people have no honor, so let the intramural finger-pointing commence.

In actual fact, an American president, his vice-president and administration showed psychopathic disregard for fellow citizens and America’s allies, many of whom remain potential Taliban/ISIS/Al-Qaeda hostages or victims, and for many thousands of doomed pro-Western Afghans.

Why would any rational nation still consider the U.S. a credible, reliable partner in even trivial, must less critical international matters?

One outlet asked, “Will America Ever Recover From the Disaster of Afghanistan?

Better question: Is recovery even possible as long as this witless, soulless crowd is calling the shots?

Meanwhile, though, medieval barbarians will celebrate the twentieth anniversary of 9/11 on formerly “sovereign U.S. territory” inside our Kabul embassy behind security provided by America’s finest military equipment.

Thanks to Biden/Harris, the jihadists are back, energized and well-armed.

Globally – and at home – nothing good will come from Biden/Harris’s disgraceful blunders in Afghanistan and the humanitarian/human-rights catastrophe unfolding there.
