Blue City Media ‘Mogul’ Hits PeakChutzpah

In a May 8 Newsweek article, Darvio “The Kingpin” Morrow, CEO of the Cleveland-based FCB Radio Network, alleges, “Republicans Bash ‘Democrat-Run Cities’ But do Nothing to Help. They’re Part of the Problem.”

In it, Morrow complains: “[The phrase] ‘Democrat-run cities’… gives Republicans an excuse to rag on their political rivals, as well as an easy way to evade responsibility for the ills plaguing inner cities, as if to say, Not our turf, not our responsibility!”

Morrow goes on: “Republicans are right that these cities are led by Democrats, and some element of political stagnation will always develop as a result of a lack of political competition. But that’s exactly the point: These cities remain Democrat-led because their voters don’t have a choice. After all, they can’t choose an option that doesn’t exist.”

And he asks, “Were there any Republicans in Chicago’s recent mayoral race? No. Los Angeles? No. Cleveland? No. In city after city, the story is the same.”

Morrow continues: “Republicans intentionally[!] abandoned urban voters years ago. And they still don’t attempt to compete in many of our nation’s large cities. Yet they have the audacity to bash those voters for not voting for a nonexistent option!”

This bit is hilarious: “If it wasn’t for the sheer incompetence of the Republican establishment, one might wonder if they’re doing this on purpose. After all, …it gives the GOP a convenient foil and boogeyman to run against in the races that they actually care about.”

It’s difficult to argue against the “sheer incompetence of the Republican establishment,” but the notion that the party is responsible for the devastation of inner cities because they wish to use Democrats’ urban failures as a political “foil” in “races that they actually care about” is ridiculous.

Frankly, the GOP hierarchy isn’t that clever.

It’s entirely possible that few politically-viable Republicans still reside in the Democrat-run cities that even Democrats who can afford to are fleeing, primarily to Republican-governed states.

Surely Morrow knows that most urban voters are Democrats, yet he would make Republicans responsible for the decay of American cities simply because the GOP cannot find anyone to run in races everyone knows they cannot win.

More Morrow: “Republicans run so infrequently that they never build familiarity with voters.”

Wait! What? Is the problem that Republicans never run, or that they run too ”infrequently?” Darvio doesn’t explain. Nor does he suggest how many times a Republican must lose in order to “build familiarity.”

Nonetheless, dysfunctional cities are still the GOP’s fault…

Morrow’s allegations set new standards for chutzpah.

Has Morrow even considered that Democrats are just not very good at governance? Or that urban voters are getting what they asked for – good and hard?

The history of America’s dirtiest, most crime-ridden cities tells the story:

Chicago’s last GOP mayor left office in 1927, Cleveland’s in 1988.  Los Angeles has had only two Republican mayors since 1909.

Philadelphia’s last Republican mayor left in 1952. Detroit hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1957. San Francisco has been run by Democrats since 1964, Portland since 1980, Seattle since 1969.

St. Louis has been a Democrat stronghold since 1949; Washington DC has been since 1910; Democrats have run Houston since 1933; and Baltimore has had one Republican mayor in 68 years.

New York was last considered safe during the years 1994-2001 when Republican Rudy Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor, was mayor.

In fact, twenty-seven of America’s thirty most dangerous cities are run by Democrats. Retailers are shutting down and leaving crime-ridden Democrat-run cities as they plunge further into chaos and violence.

Party leaders and prominent Democrats don’t seem to mind the crime in their cities, possibly because most live in areas where crime doesn’t affect them. Indeed, to some, crime and civil unrest are politically useful.

Writer Stephen Kruiser called urban lawlessness, “…a marvelous way [for Democrats] to deflect from whatever [President(ish) Joe] Biden is screwing up at the moment…[and]…to help them prepare for the big civil unrest finale that they almost certainly have planned for 2024.”

That, too, will somehow be blamed on Republicans.

Morrow sums up his indictment thusly: “If you are not willing to be part of the solution, you are part of the problem.”

Original, huh?

OK, Dario…now do “illegal immigration/border control,” “energy independence,” and “failing public schools.”
