CAP Launches Legislative Scorecard

People have busy lives, and keeping track of legislators’ activity in Harrisburg can be a challenge. We are frequently asked how well a specific Representative or Senator is performing. A significant focus of the Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania (CAP) is to hold members of the General Assembly accountable.

CAP has launched a new tool to help voters and taxpayers get a better feel for what is happening in the state capitol. Our Accountability Index will focus on legislation that impacts taxpayers and bills that will affect the future of the Commonwealth.

We favor free-markets and personal responsibility. Legislation and amendments that run afoul of our guiding principles are subject to inclusion on the scorecard. Our goal is to give members of the General Assembly advanced notice if we plan on scoring a floor vote, an amendment, or even votes related to procedures. There may be times when votes happen quickly, and we are unable to make that happen. However, lawmakers should be treating every vote as something that voters are watching.

Our Accountability Index will be updated in as close to real time as possible. Voters will be able to determine how their lawmaker is doing throughout the year. We will update grades as often as possible.

CAP hopes that you find this information helpful. If you have any questions or suggestions to improve the Index, please let us know.
