Climate Alert! Climate Alert! (Etc . . . )

Anyone aged fifty has (miraculously) survived multiple “apocalypses.”

According to “science” (as reported by corporate media, anyway), everybody(!) agrees that humans who breathe, drive, fly, light/heat/cool homes, use gas-powered lawnmowers and hold backyard barbecues cause global warming.

Also according to media, everybody agrees that, unless drastic measures are taken – pronto – polar ice caps/glaciers will melt, storms will become more frequent/intense, and coastal cities will flood, then disappear.

But, “everybody” doesn’t agree – for many reasons, not the least of which are a half-century of false apocalyptic climate predictions.

Global warming wasn’t even the first. 1960s alarmism over a new Ice Age continued into the 1970s:

Then…nothing happened, so cooling alarmism morphed into warming activism.

United Nations and media science “experts” have been making hysterical new climate predictions for decades while forgetting – or ignoring – their prior misjudgments.

In 1982, the UN predicted that, if global warming wasn’t reversed by 2000, Earth would face “an environmental catastrophe [with] devastation as complete, as irreversible, as any nuclear holocaust.’’

In 1989, a UN environmental official upped the ante, announcing that, if warming wasn’t reversed by 1999, we’d face “Global disaster, nations wiped off the face of the earth, crop failures.”

And, in 2007, the UN climate panel’s head, said, “If there is no action before 2012, that’s too late.”

Whoa! That was ten years ago! We’re doomed!

Or not…

Amusingly, in 2019, the UN gave mankind until 2030 “to prevent irreversible damage from climate change.”

Even though doomsayers were already wrong for decades, former-President Barack Obama promoted the hype; former-Vice-president Al Gore got wealthy pimping climate calamities; and current Washington Democrats are cramming $billions into a bill (they hopefully cannot pass) to “fix” the climate. Apparently, all it takes is cash.

Ironically, despite the current climate “emergency,” none of them have reduced their carbon footprints, stopped using private aircraft or buying beachfront properties.

The alleged “consensus” on man-made global warming was publicly challenged in 2012 when new temperature data showed the planet hadn’t warmed in fifteen years.

This year, we learned that Antarctica has had years of record-breaking cold, then an early Arctic freeze left 18 ships icebound near Russia.

A 2013 peer-reviewed survey of 1077 geoscientists and engineers found that “only 36 percent of geoscientists and engineers believe that humans are creating a global warming crisis.”

In other words, if there is any consensus at all, it’s biased against anthropogenic global warming.

Also in 2013, Power Line contributor John Hinderaker cited, “the NOAA/NCDC weather data on the U.S., which are routinely relied on by alarmists who claim that the last few years have been the warmest ever. In order to justify this assertion, NOAA has gone back and revised the data for prior decades. Instead of reporting temperatures for prior decades, like the 1930s, as it did at the time and for many years thereafter, NOAA has now changed those temperatures downward to support the politically-motivated claim that the last years of the 20th century were the warmest ever. If you look at NOAA data today for the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, etc., you will have no idea that the numbers NOAA now reports are not the ones that were measured by thermometers at the time.”

Responsible scientists attribute cooling and warming to natural, often sun-influenced weather cycles. Some scientists think the earth may be warming, others predict cooling, but honest scientists – that is, those whose livelihoods don’t depend upon government subsidies to predict climate “calamities” – warn against overreacting and adopting expensive, ineffective, politically-driven remediation policies.

Hinderaker: “[T]he publicly available evidence suggests that alarmist scientists have repeatedly committed fraud in research conducted and papers published that were paid for by United States taxpayers. It seems inconceivable that felonies have not been committed in connection with those frauds.”

So, don’t panic; stay calm; think for yourself; remain skeptical; be on constant alert for cynical, ambitious – autocratic – politicians; and, when motives are in doubt, always follow the money.
