‘Common Sense’ Gun Control, a Quiz

Member Group : Jerry Shenk

Why do liberal Democrats’ positions on nearly every issue, including gun control, seem designed to make citizens less free?

Democrats insist that “commonsense” gun control will stop mass shootings like those in Uvalde, Texas, and Highland Park, Illinois.

In fact, they exploit such events to promote policies they have always favored.

Opinions vary on what constitutes “commonsense” gun control, but most hard left-liberals lean toward “confiscation.”

One wonders, though, what gun grabbers know about existing gun laws, firearm safety, and the usefulness of firearms in self-defense.

Do the people who would “take firearms off the street,” understand that Americans’ right to keep and bear arms is an essential element of the U.S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights? Do they care?

Are they familiar with the gun control laws currently in effect in their states? Are you?

In view of those and the laws already in effect in yours or states like Illinois, can you tell us how many new “commonsense” laws are necessary to supplement the current laws? Be specific about policy details.

Do you know that there is no “loophole” in federal law exempting “gun show sales,” that sellers must have a licensed importer, manufacturer, dealer or county sheriff’s office perform a background check on prospective purchasers?

What are assault weapons? Be specific. What weapons are typically used in mass shootings? Are mass shootings common – or rare? What’s the trend line? Why haven’t liberal Democrats ever passed comprehensive gun control laws when they held the White House and congressional majorities?

Does everyone know that, since 2009, nearly every mass shooting has occurred in “gun free” zones, or that the greatest rate of gun violence occurs in jurisdictions that have the strictest gun control laws, including Philadelphia?

How many legal firearms are owned by law-abiding Americans who passed background checks?

How do the liberals who tell us it’s “impossible” to identify, arrest and deport 12-25 million illegal immigrants, expect to confiscate more than 300 million – and growing – legal, legally-owned firearms?

If citizens don’t need firearms with large-capacity magazines to protect themselves and their families from violent threats, why do police officers carry them?

Are Democrats responsible for the massive increase in firearm sales?

During the first half of 2021 alone, over 3.2 million Americans purchased a firearm for the first time following destructive rioting, chaos and a spike in violent crime in Democrat-controlled jurisdictions; when the former governor of Virginia, a Democrat, was pushing oppressive anti-gun legislation, Virginia citizens purchased 74,000 more firearms in one month; and legal guns sales have hit record levels in deep blue jurisdictions, especially among minorities living in high crime neighborhoods.

One wonders why they bought firearms, what all those buyers stood to gain, and what might have happened to some of them had they not?

What is the average 911 response time for the police department in your community?

Did your community respond to left-wing demands to “defund the police?” Some that did no longer have enough officers to respond to 911 calls.

Do you know that, each year in America, citizens use firearms defensively between 500,000 and 3 million times? Or that, according to a 2013 report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) commissioned by then-President Barack Obama, “Self-defense can be an important crime deterrent.”?

From the report: “Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was ‘used’ by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.”

If you think gun manufacturers should be held responsible for crimes in which firearms were used illegally, then, logically, why shouldn’t automobile manufacturers be responsible for the 4.5 million Americans who are injured and roughly 40,000 who die each year in car accidents caused by inattentive or reckless drivers?

In fact, criminals frequently use automobiles when committing crimes. Should car companies be liable for those, too?

Finally, did you know that, during the 20th Century, the governments of Ottoman Turkey, the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, China, Cambodia, Guatemala and Uganda and all banned private gun ownership before committing genocide?

After acquiring it, the fatuity of anyone unimpressed by all that information could prove fatal, especially in urban and, increasingly, suburban areas.
