CONSTITUTION GROUP TO SPONSOR PUBLIC
READING OF U.S. CONSTITUTION

(Lebanon, PA) – The Constitutional Organization Of Liberty (COOL), an educational, non-partisan group, has announced that it will be sponsoring a public reading of the United States Constitution at the historic Cornwall Furnace on Saturday, September 18.

Mark Thomas, Chairman for COOL, said that the reading is part of a nationwide event organized by "We Read The Constitution" to commemorate the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.

"With the increased amount of interest people have in the Constitution, it seemed natural for COOL to join in a national celebration of the document," Thomas said. "We have been promoting constitutional education for about five years and a public reading sponsored by COOL is an extension of that effort."

Thomas said that the reason the Cornwall Iron Furnace was selected as the site for the public reading was because of its historic relevance to the American Revolution.

"The owners of the iron furnace supported the patriot cause and produced supplies like cannons, shot and ironware," he noted. "And, according to some accounts, George Washington visited the iron works to inspect the operations."

State Senator Mike Folmer, who will serve as one of the readers, said that he was excited about the opportunity to participate in a reading of the Constitution because it reinforces the nature of public ownership of the Constitution.

"Our Constitution was not written by a bunch of elitists to benefit a small, narrow group of people, and it was never intended to be some mystical document that only the educated elite can understand," Folmer said. "But it is the rule of law to which everyone is subject, especially those elected to manage
the affairs of government."

In addition to Folmer, other participants will include Frank Ryan, Robert Mansfield, Sam Abrams, Sandy Miller, and Louis Petolicchio.

The Constitution reading will be begin at 10:00 AM and is expected to run through 11:30 AM. The Cornwall Iron Furnace is located at Rexmont & Boyd Street, Cornwall, PA, and the public is invited to attend.
