Democrats’ Hangovers, Potential Perp Walks

The American left’s collective high on Hopium, Changium, Hillarium and Bernium has left Democrats with a massive Make America Great Again hangover. Characteristically, Democrats, including allies in national media, cannot/will not accept responsibility for their comprehensive failures.

One might reasonably expect that, after a year, angry disappointment over the 2016 presidential election had dissipated and that Democrats were addressing the serious business of reestablishing ties to lost voters, rebuilding their party and laying the groundwork for future elections. They have done none of that.

Instead, Democrats have doubled down on the broadly-unpopular policies that contributed to their electoral humiliation: Abortion absolutism, open borders, sanctuary cities and socialized medicine. Those missteps, plus Democrats’ preoccupation with identity politics ” notably race, sexual orientation, gender and gender variations — have effectively emasculated the party. Democrats have lost governorships, state legislatures, the U.S. House and Senate and, along with the presidency, the Supreme Court and federal court system. There are few nationally-known young, even middle-aged potential Democratic leaders, none of them brave enough to challenge their base’s radicalism.

Having learned nothing, Democrats’ cultural and political isolation from most Americans has metastasized.

Moreover, immediately post-election, Democrats and media allies began attempts to delegitimize a duly-elected president, first by arranging therapeutic, cathartic, sometimes-violent protests. Then, after planting the seeds last November, they spent months obsessing over the Trump campaign’s alleged Russian “collusion” which merely permitted Democrats to avoid honest appraisals of their and the “inevitable” Hillary Clinton campaign’s miscalculations, incompetency and failures.

Now, Democrats must face and explain the Washington Post’s report that Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid for the remarkably-thin, uncorroborated “Steele” dossier, revealing it as a campaign piece exploited as “grounds” for investigating Donald Trump’s campaign for collusion, portions of which, at least, were likely planted by Russian sources to discredit Trump.

At the same time, evidence has been uncovered of Hillary Clinton’s possible collusion with Russia while Secretary of State. The evidence outlines an allegedly-criminal scheme to allow Russian control of 20 percent of America’s uranium. Wrongdoing, if proven, may implicate, among others, both Clintons, whose foundation received millions in Russian funds, President Barack Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder and former FBI Director Robert Mueller who is now the prosecutor in charge of the Trump special investigation. Ironic, huh?

We’ll see how that all plays out, but President Trump is looking far more like a victim than a perpetrator.

So, how are rank-and-file Democrats responding to these revelations? More catharsis, naturally. On November 8, the one-year anniversary of President Trump’s election, thousands of anxious Democrats in nine or more cities will congregate outdoors to, in their words, “scream helplessly at the sky.”

Seriously? C’mon, people. It’s been a year. America has not become a fascist state. Peaceful “anti-regime” political resistance, including screaming at clouds, isn’t prosecuted or even prosecutable.

Conservative Americans can’t wait to witness this pointless, counter-productive empty gesture, undoubtedly more eager than the screamers to see which side takes Russian-connected campaign-specific and/or national security perp walks.
