Healthy PA Plan Puts Economy on Life Support

Member Group : Lincoln Institute

This week Governor Corbett unveiled his Healthy PA plan. Full of good wishes and promises, the plan skips over a few minor facts that are likely to get in the way of all the good wishes.

First, it invites a massive government expansion of Obamacare into Pennsylvania. That’s right. Invites Obamacare into Pennsylvania…into our lives, into our families’ medical decisions and most importantly into our wallets. This move by the Governor is not mandatory. It is voluntary. In fact, he went to the Department of Health and Human Services with this offer. Unfortunately what he is offering the feds is a recipe for disaster that will put our state’s economy on economic life support.

How? Simple.

It adds 500,000 – 1,000,000 NEW people onto Government assistance without a long term plan to pay for it.

The money promised through Obamacare to cover these new people continues to decrease until in a decade it runs out completely…and by then Governor Corbett will be long gone and the taxpayers will be left with 1,000,000 people expecting a new entitlement program to be funded by them.

It is exactly this KICK THE CAN down the road mentality that has led our Commonwealth to its current pension crisis and other fiscal disasters. We figuratively and literally cannot afford another kick the can down the road political maneuver from our state’s elected officials.

Since the passage of Obamacare, tt has become very clear that taxpayers – whether Democrat or Republican – want one thing from their elected officials – protection from Obamacare. That is why the unions asked President Obama directly for an exemption to Obamacare. President Obama refused their request. Similarly, we want nothing more from our elected officials in Harrisburg than to be protected from Obamacare. We ask nothing more and nothing less from Governor Corbett and will continue to oppose any efforts to expand Obacamcare into Pennsylvania.
