How the Left Manipulates Language

The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words – Philip Dick

Liberals manipulate the way Americans understand “reality” by taking common English words and assigning them alternate “meanings” clearly understood only by those who share their basic, usually illogical assumptions.

The left’s manipulation is not meant to encourage debate, but, rather, to end it. However, misusing English to end debates is a tacit admission that liberals lack arguments.

Properly understood, most redefinitions are meaningless, but angry liberals have actually taken to the streets over some of them, because, at its most fundamental level, liberals also use outrage to silence those who don’t agree with them.

Derek Hunter wrote: “Anger is kryptonite to logic, and for liberalism to work, to attract a large audience, logic has to be overridden.”

Years ago, George Orwell addressed that point in his essay “Politics and the English Language.”

“…[O]ne ought to recognise that the present political chaos is connected with the decay of language, and that one can probably bring about some improvement by starting at the verbal end.”

Let’s start…

Following are examples of liberals’ illiberal misuse of modern English, some culled from the internet, translated into Standard English:

“Investment” – Taxation, a tool of “fairness” or “equity” (terms the left reserves the right to define) designed to punish the rich and produce more revenue for social programs, a/k/a, government handouts.

“Compassion” – A personal “quality” liberals affect as cover for their animosity toward/envy of the wealthy and/or successful.

“Wage/income/wealth gaps” – Skill, effort and/or talent gaps.

“Capitalism” – A word popularized by Karl Marx in “Das Kapital” used to identify a primary source of “inequity.”

“Corporate greed” – An accusation leveled at businesses that earn profits to reward their shareholders.

“Homelessness” – a condition liberals tolerate, sometimes encourage, to indict capitalism.

“Racist” – a term applied to everyone except people of color who vote for Democrats.

“Anti-racism” – a genuinely racist personal affectation that allows liberals to feel good about themselves.

“Privilege” – Something only white people have.

“Violence” – Any common expression of conservative ideas.

“Environmentalism” – A movement misusing “nature” as an excuse to destroy industrial civilization.

“Denier” – Anyone who dissents from positions/policies liberals cannot adequately defend, e.g., “climate denier.”

“Hate speech” – 1) Any statement that challenges liberal orthodoxy, 2) an accusation commonly deployed when a conservative is about to win an argument.

“Free speech” – When angry leftists firebomb public buildings and/or destroy communities.

“Woke” – A state of “awareness” achieved only by people stupid enough to find “injustice” in everything except their own lousy behavior.

“Justice” – An ordinary noun used to “validate” liberal programs such as “social justice” and “climate justice,” implying that society, the law and even “climate” are somehow discriminatory.

“Inclusion” – A word reinvented for the sole purpose of excluding anyone holding conservative political or religious opinions.

“Diversity” – a characteristic of any ethnically diverse left-wing group having intellectual homogeneity and political uniformity.

“Phobic” – A Greek word meaning “something one fears irrationally” liberals employ as a suffix to slander people with whom they merely disagree, e.g., “homophobic,” “transphobic,” and “Islamophobic,” among others.

“Problematic” – any publicly expressed sentiment falling outside the boundaries of “things liberals like.”

“College intellectuals” – A popular left-wing oxymoron.

“Facts” – The repetitious expressions of liberal falsehoods.

“Transgender” – A term having no basis in science the left uses to change public thinking in order to accommodate a miniscule percentage of people who suffer from gender dysphoria, a mental pathology.

“Trans-women” – Men whose “vaginas” are unlike biological women’s.

“Our democracy – Any political system in which liberal Democrats always get their way.

“Threat to democracy” – When Republicans win free and fair elections.

“Existential threat to democracy” – Stopping 1) the looting of the U.S. Treasury, 2) kickbacks from U.S. foreign aid, and 3) massive corruption at the federal level in which elected officials and unelected bureaucrats can emerge from “public service” fabulously wealthy for doing little of value.

“Voter Suppression” – Any attempt to eliminate election fraud.

“Constitutional crisis” – A condition occurring whenever liberals are not in power.

“Not a constitutional crisis” – The four years during which the office and responsibilities of a Democrat U.S. President are administered by unelected aides and political activists hiding an incapacitated president.

Americans must understand and reject the left’s linguistic vandalism, the buzzwords, slogans and euphemisms that provide constant diversions from genuine debate.

There’s far too much at stake to indulge them.
