PHILADELPHIA, April 20 — With Pennsylvania nearing a critical election cycle, a new website launched today promises to be a one-stop-shop for political junkies and casual observers alike.
The site, pa2010.com, combines reported news and analysis with opinion content from across the political spectrum. With online messaging opportunities for campaigns and a commitment to social-network news-gathering, the site aims to be a force in Pennsylvania politics.
"The 2010 elections are going to be a watershed for the Keystone State, when we’ll learn if Pennsylvania’s recent ‘Blue’ shift to left is sustainable, or if it’s reached its apex before snapping back," said Dan Hirschhorn, pa2010.com’s reporter, editor and publisher.
"There is a great deal of excitement out there, both in the grassroots and among political insiders," Hirschhorn added. "We’re thrilled to be offering Pennsylvanians this one-of-a-kind news source, and are determined to provide citizens of the Commonwealth the critical information they need to make educated decisions in the voting booth."
As traditional, mainstream news organizations have shed reporting staff, they have left behind a void of political coverage. By focusing on only the gubernatorial, senatorial and congressional races, pa2010.com will fill this void and capitalize on the demonstrated demand for niche political news.
"By focusing narrowly on the biggest races, we’ll break news every day," Hirschhorn said. "If you’re interested in the races for Pennsylvania Governor, U.S. Senate and Congress, there’s only one place you need to go, and that’s pa2010.com."
The website went live for the first time on Sunday afternoon. A content-sharing agreement with Metro Philadelphia is in place, and other similar partnerships will be pursued.
Dan Hirschhorn is available for online, print, radio or TV interviews to discuss Pennsylvania politics.
