Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative (PPWC) to serve lawmakers in highlighting the essential work of pregnancy medical clinics and resource centers in communities across the Commonwealth.

(HARRISBURG, PA – March 19, 2024) Today, staff with several pregnancy medical clinics and resource centers in Pennsylvania stood with state lawmakers to announce the Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative (PPWC). The PPWC is a new organization working to unite Pennsylvanians involved with pregnancy help to advance maternal health for women and families across the Commonwealth.

“The Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative is a new initiative unifying pregnancy medical clinics and resource centers that provide compassionate and essential care for women and families in Pennsylvania,” stated Sarah Bowen, President of the Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative.

Pennsylvania has many pregnancy medical clinics that provide maternal and child healthcare and operate under the direction of a medical director and a credentialed medical staff. Additionally, pregnancy resource centers provide critical support services in their communities such as parenting education and material help.

The care and support found at pregnancy medical clinics and resource centers are essential to fulfilling the needs of pregnant women facing challenging circumstances.

  • Comprehensive Support Services: Members of the PPWC offer a wide range of support services that go well beyond pregnancy testing, including ultrasound, STD testing and treatment, emotional support for relationship issues and financial needs, educational and parenting classes, and material assistance (such as diapers, formula, and baby clothes). Providing these services empowers women to make informed decisions about their pregnancy and help meet their physical and emotional needs.

  • “Saved My Life” – Enhancing Maternal Health: Pregnancy medical clinics and resource centers help identify and address potential health issues early in pregnancy, reducing the risk of complications for both the mother and the baby. By offering medical referrals, guidance, and screenings, these centers contribute to better health outcomes.  A woman served by a pregnancy medical clinic in PA recently shared that they “saved my life” as her symptoms were diagnosed, and it was later confirmed she had an ectopic pregnancy.

  • Community Impact: By empowering women to make healthy choices for themselves and their families, PPWC members provide vital assistance that can lead to better outcomes for both parents and children. These services are offered free of charge or at low cost to any community member.

The mission of the Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative is to provide a unified voice for pregnancy centers, educating our communities and legislatures, and promoting and protecting pregnancy help statewide.

“The physical and mental well-being of women must be a top priority for state officials and members of the Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative are well-equipped to help meet many of the vital needs in local communities,” stated Amy Scheuring, Vice President for the Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative.
