Obama’s Mid-East Policy Collapses

On September 11, 2012 ? the eleventh anniversary of the infamous 9/11 terrorist
attacks four Americans were brutally killed during an attack on the United States Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The dead are U.S. ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, information officer Sean Smith, and two former U.S. Navy SEALS ? Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. As more information and additional accounts have surfaced regarding the attack, an increasingly clear picture has emerged of a well planned, military style attack led by members of the al-Qaeda terror organization. One Libyan guard claims the military-styled assault was launched simultaneously from three different directions. Another local security official ? Jamal Mabrouk ? said he met with American diplomats three days prior to the attack to warn them of the deteriorating security situation in the city.

Multiple news reports now claim that heavy machine guns, indirect fire, mortars, and rocket-propelled grenades were all used in the attack. And numerous Libyan officials and civilians and starting yesterday some American officials have stated that the pre-planned attack was led by terrorists linked to al-Qaeda, including one al-Qaeda leader who the United States government released from our detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 2007. About 50 individuals, including foreigners, have already been arrested in connection with the attack. And Libyan President Mohammed el-Megarif stated over the weekend that the idea that this criminal and cowardly act was a spontaneous protest that just spun out of control is completely unfounded and preposterous.

But these statements and details did not stop the Obama Administration from claiming emphatically that this attack was a spontaneous reaction to an amateur anti-Muhammad video clip that was released all the way back on July 2nd. In fact, the Obama Administration claimed for a week that this was NOT a terrorist attack and had NOTHING to do with the anniversary of the 2001, September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States. For days White House spokesman Jay Carney insisted there was no evidence to suggest the Benghazi attack was anything other than a spontaneous reaction to the anti-Mohammed video by a disorganized mob. And over the weekend, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, repeatedly echoed Carney?s claim, stating that the attack on our consulate ?had nothing to do with the United States.

As a former military officer, I can tell you that it was absolutely obvious a full week ago that this was a planned, military style assault on our consulate. So why did President Obama and his minions deny the emerging facts for an entire week, claiming that this was merely a spontaneous street reaction to an anti-Islamic video?

I spent considerable time on my radio program last weekend discussing both the
background and the failure of Obama?s foreign policy in the Middle East. If you
missed it, you can listen at

Presidential campaign, Barack Obama stated ?I truly believe that the day I?m
inaugurated, not only does the Country look at itself differently, but the world
looks at America differently. If I?m reaching out to the Muslim World, they
understand that I?ve lived in a Muslim country, and I may be a Christian, but I also understand their point of view? Our future and our security is tied up with our ability to work with other countries in the World. That will ultimately make us safer, and that’s something that [the Bush] Administration has failed to understand. Barack Obama and his entire Administration believed that anti-American feelings in the Islamic world would be solved through their policy of apologizing for America?s supposed past offenses, bowing literally and figuratively to foreign leaders, refusing to establish ?red lines? for Iran?s nuclear weapons development program, disengaging militarily from Iraq and Afghanistan, and generally disengaging and ?leading from behind? on all matters having to do with the Middle East and Islam.

President Obama and his Administration ?clung? to their ?video and disorganized
demonstrators’ version of events this past week because it allowed them to claim
that Obama’s policies were working. But now, the whole intellectual basis of Obama’s policy that he could change America’s relationship with Islam through his very presence, through apologies, and through disengagement and weakness ? has collapsed in the 9/11 fires, explosions, and death screams of Benghazi. Now that Obama and his team are being forced to admit that this was an act of terrorism by al-Qaeda, they have to admit that despite President Obama?s position as President, despite his conciliatory words and actions, and despite even the death of Osama Bin Laden, many people in the Islamic world still hate America, and al-Qaeda is still a threat. And worse for Obama, these kinds of serious incidents were not occurring under the leadership of George W. Bush. So, instead of leading to peace and security, Obama’s polices of disengagement, appeasement, and unilaterally declaring the War on Terror over have actually created renewed unrest across the Middle East. In short, Barack Obama has once again confirmed the historic lessons learned by Neville Chamberlain in the 1930s and Jimmy Carter in the 1970s ? weakness and appeasement do
not lead to peace and security, but instead lead to danger and war.

In a striking resemblance to 1979 under our last left-wing President, Jimmy Carter, Americans once again regularly see foreigners burning the U.S. flag in front of American embassies while chanting ?death to America? ? disturbing images to watch with our kids on the evening news. U.S. diplomats are being murdered, including Ambassador Stevens, who was the first U.S. Ambassador killed in the line of duty since Adolph Dubs (U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan) was shot and killed in 1979. In addition, Obama has also placed 6 million Israelis at risk of nuclear annihilation by refusing to stand up to Iran and their advancing nuclear weapons program. Israel is begging the Obama Administration for support, or at least a green light in their efforts to stop the Iranian regime. But instead, Obama is standing in opposition to serious action. Just like the Carter Administration, the Obama administration is showing how dangerous a U.S. foreign policy of disengagement and
appeasement is to the United States, our close allies, and the rest of the world.

Last week’s Middle East uprising is just more compelling evidence that we need a new leader in the White House who actually understands history and economics, and who will lead based on facts (not self-aggrandizing, left-wing, ideological delusions) in a dangerous world. I hope and pray that a majority of Americans will choose to elect a new President in November! If you agree, please make sure you are registered to vote right now, and then make sure to vote on November 6th. The race is very close and we need every vote to restore America and the world to a path of strength, peace and prosperity. If we win, ALL Americans will benefit.
