Relax, There is No ‘Climate Emergency’

Because they disputed the political orthodoxy of “global warming,” more recently “climate change,” “extreme weather” or substitute the “apocalypse” du jour, there’s an excellent chance that the more than 1100 climate scientists and related professionals who signed a formal 2022 “World Climate Declaration (WCD)” stating that there is no climate emergency were never mentioned by your favorite legacy media outlet(s).

Headed by Norwegian physics Nobel Prize laureate Professor Ivar Giaever, signatories from across the globe issued this statement: “There is no climate emergency. Therefore, there is no cause for panic and alarm. We strongly oppose the harmful and unrealistic net-zero CO2 policy proposed for 2050. If better approaches emerge, and they certainly will, we have ample time to reflect and re-adapt. The aim of global policy should be ‘prosperity for all’ by providing reliable and affordable energy at all times.”

The authors’ Declaration also states, quite reasonably, “Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific. Scientists should openly address uncertainties and exaggerations in their predictions of global warming, while politicians should dispassionately count the real costs as well as the imagined benefits of their policy measures.”

In other words, eleven hundred-plus professionals have dealt a mortal blow to the fictions that climate science is “settled,” and that “anthropogenic,” or human factors are the primary causes of climate change.

The group observed that climate alarmists base their claims on a cult-like belief system rather than on genuine science.

MIT Professor/Climate Scientist Dr. Richard Lindzen, one of the Declaration’s lead authors, calls the current climate narrative “absurd.”

Lindzen rejects “climate change” as “a quasi-religious movement predicated on an absurd ‘scientific’ narrative,” and attributes the prevailing climate storyline to the millions of taxpayer and special interest dollars that are awarded to grant-dependent academics, amplified by the propaganda of agenda-driven liberal media.

Loose translations: “It’s as easy for greedy and/or ambitious special interests to buy professors, scientists, and journalists as it is to buy politicians,” and, “media climate alarmists, generally, are politicized flacks.”

Because it’s nearly impossible to receive grants for any climate research that disputes political orthodoxy, there was no profit motive behind the Declaration. That’s what makes it so unusual, powerful – and convincing.

The Declaration is especially critical of the garbage in/garbage out modeling techniques that are central to catastrophic climate theory: “We should free ourselves from the naïve belief in immature climate models. In future, climate research must give significantly more emphasis to empirical science.”

The WCD notes that Earth’s climate has always varied naturally, and that climate models “are not remotely plausible as global policy tools,” because, among other shortcomings, they all overemphasize the effect of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, while ignoring CO2’s beneficial effects.

“CO2 is not a pollutant. It is essential to all life on Earth. Photosynthesis is a blessing. More CO2 is beneficial for nature, greening the Earth; additional CO2 in the air has promoted growth in global plant biomass. It is also good for agriculture, increasing the yield of crops worldwide.”

Furthermore, the WCD cites the lack of statistical evidence that global warming/climate change is intensifying natural weather disasters such as hurricanes, tornados, floods and droughts, or increasing their frequency.

At the risk of redundancy, a number of the Declaration’s most important observations follow:

• Natural causes rather than humans are primarily responsible for climate change.
• A natural modern warming period has been slower than models predicted
• The climate models upon which alarmist orthodoxy is based are faulty.
• Climate change/warming has not increased the intensity or occurrence of natural disasters.
• Carbon dioxide is plant food. “It is essential to all life on Earth.”

There is no doubt that green energy grifters and academic, political and media climate alarmists, along with their gullible acolytes in the public, will continue to demand net-zero CO2 policies, but, tellingly, only at home.

Their “global climate catastrophe” targets do not include Communist China, a nation that produces 13 million tons of coal a day and continues to build coal-fired power plants. Nor will they stop prioritizing the climate fantasies of media darling Greta Thunberg, an attention-hungry, autistic Swedish high school dropout, over the considered opinions of eleven hundred-plus knowledgeable professionals.

The climate cult’s ringleaders’ ultimate objectives are not to save, but to profit from or control humanity.
