What is the Current State of the Union?

Clearly, he is not a humble man, so, one wonders, what will President(ish) Joe Biden boast about during his upcoming State of the Union address?

Can you name one thing – just one – that has improved since Biden took office?

Has Biden kept his inaugural promise to put his “whole soul” into uniting the nation?

Why do 72 percent of Americans think the country is headed in the wrong direction?

When did inflation last reach 7.5 percent? Did everyone get a 2022 pay raise exceeding 7.5 percent? Other than temporary runs on paper products, were store shelves bare before Biden’s inauguration?

What about gasoline prices? Are they higher now – or lower?

What was Joe’s logic in begging a foreign oil cartel to increase production to offset price increases caused by his war on fossil fuels? Does burning OPEC’s produce fewer emissions than domestically-produced oil?

Is America’s southern border more secure now, or less? How did Biden’s administration deal with the million-plus illegals who invaded America last year? Were they deported, caught and released into the interior, or were – are – they being quietly resettled here at taxpayer expense?  From where are they coming? Should American taxpayers fund “legal services” for illegal invaders?

If America spends tax dollars to protect Ukraine’s border without securing our own, does Hunter Biden stand to profit?

Did Joe Biden’s precipitous, chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan improve America’s global image? How did abandoning $billions in military weapons and equipment there stabilize Afghanistan or improve the lives of ordinary Afghanis?

Has every American left behind in Afghanistan been repatriated? You don’t know? Why not?

Did the Biden administration’s handling of the withdrawal intimidate or embolden bad actors in China, Russia, Iran and North Korea? Did it reassure our allies of America’s resolve to honor its other commitments? Or is the world laughing at us?

Did Biden keep his campaign promise to “shut down” COVID-19? Did more or fewer Americans succumb to the virus in 2021? Wasn’t it the rule that, if people die on a president’s watch, their deaths are his fault?

Did directing federal agencies, contractors and private businesses to either fire unvaccinated workers – even those with natural immunity – or impose weekly testing requirements just drive more Americans out of the labor force? Did Biden overstep his constitutional authority by ordering it?

Does regaining jobs lost to COVID restrictions really qualify as “creating new jobs?”

Is masking effective? How about social distancing, closing schools and businesses, telling people to stay home, and testing asymptomatic people?  Will the administration continue pushing the same futile efforts to suppress a respiratory virus?

Or is Biden so eager to shove his pandemic failures down the memory hole that he will stop counting infections and deaths, declare “victory” and announce America’s return to “normalcy?”

If he does, what will have changed? The “science?” The opinion polls? Or did the fear-mongering just stop working?

Will people really be inclined to forgive Biden – and Democrats – for arriving late to the same conclusion most Americans reached months ago?

Do you agree with Joe Biden that “terrorism from white supremacy” is the “most lethal threat to the homeland today?” When and where was the last “white supremacist” attack? Are Antifa and BLM anarchists “white supremacists?”

Are Democrats united? Are they happy with the Biden administration’s first year? Or has internal party discord stalled Biden’s agenda and increased the likelihood that it will fail comprehensively? Has it already failed?

As Democrats struggle to hold congressional majorities, will Joe Biden be an asset or a liability? Why or why not?

Do first term midterm elections usually favor the president’s party? Do generic polls still favor Democrats? Are House Democrats eagerly anticipating midterm elections, or will more than the 30 already-announced Democrat members retire rather than risk being unseated by disaffected voters?

Will “Joe Biden” become an enduring punchline? Forty or fifty years from now, when our grandkids and their friends discuss politics and someone says, “Let’s Go, Brandon,” will everyone know – and laugh at – its original target and meaning?

Has any president in your lifetime had a worse first year? Has Biden’s second started even less auspiciously?

Will – should – Joe Biden’s televised State of the Union address include a laugh track? Or will – should – he simply say, “I’m sorry,” then go back to Delaware?
