Pennsylvania is the fifth-most populous state in the U.S., after California, Texas, Florida and New York. As of July 1, 2023, the state had a total population of 12,961,683, having dropped from 12,972,091 in 2022, 13,013,614 in 2021 and 13,002,788 in 2020.
The majority of the state’s 67 counties have seen declines in their population over the past three years, but some are increasing. This map, based on U.S. Census data, shows where this growth has been the fastest.
