Will a New GOP House Majority Impeach Joe Biden?

If a clearly-diminished President(ish) Joe Biden can still read and comprehend public opinion surveys, he must be having nightly flop sweats over his political future.

It’s entirely possible, though, that creeping senescence has cushioned Mr. Biden’s always-considerable ego from the results of a recent Rasmussen poll in which a majority of likely voters indicate that they could or would support his impeachment.

Rasmussen’s survey reveals that 52 percent of respondents overall, including 77 percent of Republicans, 50 percent of independents, and even 32 percent(!) of Democrats are receptive to impeachment. Thirty-eight percent “strongly” support it.

There are ample grounds for impeaching Mr. Biden.

Biden has clearly failed his most fundamental duty to faithfully execute the laws of the United States and ensure the safety of the American people. His opening of our southern border violated national immigration legislation, encouraged lawlessness there, and continues to threaten national health and security.

The Congress has a constitutional right – an obligation – to hold the president responsible for that, plus any other failures to discharge his official duties.

The Hill reports, “At least eight resolutions to impeach Biden have been offered since he took office: Three related to his handling of the migrant surge at the southern border; three targeting his management of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan last year; one denouncing the eviction moratorium designed to help renters during the pandemic; and still another connected to the overseas business dealings of his son, Hunter Biden.”

The contents of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop reveal that his father was directly involved in and likely profited from Hunter’s shady international dealings. In fact, both the Washington Post and New York Times have reversed their early characterization of Hunter’s laptop as “Russian disinformation” and finally admitted that its contents are genuine.

If Joe Biden has lost his party’s most influential propaganda arms in the mainstream press, he has lost. Full stop.

Most Americans, including Democrats, expect Republicans to win control of the House in November. But will – should – a new Republican House majority file articles of impeachment?

Many Americans believe Biden and Democrats deserve harsh payback for the loathsome political abuse, Gestapo-like personal intrusions and fabricated legal charges they and their politically-weaponized federal agencies have heaped on Donald Trump and his supporters, that a liberal taste of their own medicine may be the best – only – way to restore a semblance of normalcy to Washington.

Others think impeachment is probably not a good idea, at least not early in the new Congressional term.

The Hill: “On the one hand, impeaching Biden could alienate moderate voters and hurt the GOP at the polls, as was the case in 1998 following the impeachment of President Clinton. Already, GOP leaders like Sen. Mitch McConnell (Ky.) are throwing cold water on the impeachment talk, suggesting it could damage Republicans politically in the midterms.

“On the other hand, ignoring the conservatives’ impeachment entreaties might spark a revolt from a Republican base keen to avenge the Democrats’ two impeachments of Trump…”

Because impeachment is a political act, common sense may argue against it, if for no other reason than that there is no chance of conviction in a narrowly-held Senate. In that sense, impeachment would be futile. It would merely embarrass Biden while highlighting his many already-obvious failures.

Impeachment would yield only minimal political gain, because an elderly, diminished Biden has been a lame duck from his first day in office. In addition, House Democrats trivialized the act by twice leveling impeachment absurdities against Donald Trump simply because they held a thin majority.

Furthermore, the people who vote for them this November will expect GOP majorities to address urgent problems such as inflation, restoring production of American petroleum and other conventional energy sources, closing our southern border, eradicating the “woke” virus that has infected America’s military, and returning sanity to federal spending. Many voters are unlikely to be satisfied if Republicans merely waste time and energy on embarrassing a pathetic, witless mediocrity like Joe Biden.

Impeachment might make more sense after Republicans have shown their willingness to tackle the catastrophes for which the Biden administration is responsible – assuming Biden is still in office then.

But Republicans must remember, too, that Biden took out impeachment insurance by selecting Kamala Harris as his running mate, then appointed her “border czar.”

Biden is awful enough, but a “President(ish)” Harris is unthinkable.
